DEEP ROOTS COLLECTIVE

THE NONPROFIT

Our 501(c)(3) nonprofit exists to serve families in Central Oregon from pregnancy through postpartum. Our mission is to restore dignity and autonomy to the birthing season by expanding access to the services and providers families desire—without the barrier of financial obligation.

THE MISSION

See the Need

We recognized that many families desire meaningful birth and postpartum support — but financial barriers often limit their options. At the same time, our community longed for a tangible way to support one another.

Restore Choice

We exist to restore dignity and autonomy to the birthing and postpartum season by expanding access to the services families truly want — from childbirth education to out-of-hospital birth and out-of-network care.

Fund the Care Directly

Through community donations, our Micro Thrift, and our awarded grants, we pay local practitioners directly for the services families select. Providers are compensated fully — without compromise, and families receive support without financial strain.

Build Authentic Community

What one family gives becomes another family’s support. Every donation, every service funded, every practitioner paid moves us closer to a birth culture rooted in connection, dignity, and shared responsibility.

CLOTHED IN COMMUNITY—OUR MICRO THRIFT SHOP

Retail shop and offices: 130 SW Century Dr Suite 110, Bend, OR 97702

As we served families through our doula work, we recognized a clear need in our community—parents wanting their gently loved baby gear, maternity clothes, and women’s items to go directly to the next family who needed them. So we built a way to make that happen.

Clothed in Community was born from that vision. We opened a micro thrift store where families can donate their clothing, shop at affordable prices, and participate in something bigger than a transaction. Every item received and resold becomes part of a larger cycle of support.

The proceeds from Clothed in Community directly fund birth and postpartum services for local families—helping cover childbirth education, alternative birth support, doulas, midwifery care, postpartum meal services, and out-of-network care extending to chiropractic, acupuncture, the list goes on. What one family no longer needs becomes the very thing that helps another family access the support they deserve and desire.

  • We accept women’s clothing in all sizes, with a high need for maternity wear. We also accept children’s clothing in sizes 0–5 years.

All clothing donations must be free of stains, tears, excessive wear, or holes.

We accept gently used baby gear and accessories commonly used during the prenatal through postpartum season. This includes items such as:

    • Pack and Plays

    • Sound machines

    • Snuggle Me loungers

    • Baby carriers

    • Other practical baby accessories in excellent condition

All gear must be clean, fully functional, and meet current safety standards. We cannot accept car seats at this time.

  • The AM Shop Mom or Shop Dad is the steady, multitasking adult in charge during their shift — hosting the retail space with the same attentiveness, warmth, and awareness that great parents bring to a home. You set the tone, hold the atmosphere, and make sure both the space and the people in it are cared for. No, you don’t have to be a parent to be the shop mom/dad!

During AM shifts, you “wake up the store” — lights on, diffusers going, music started, hospitality bar stocked, doors unlocked, register accounted for, and the retail floor refreshed and ready. Throughout your shift, you restock as items sell, maintain general upkeep, and ensure everything feels welcoming and intentional.

You greet every customer with genuine warmth, offer something from the hospitality bar, and get curious about what brought them through our doors. You create connection, not just transactions — and when it’s time, you confidently complete sales and check customers out with excellence and care.

    Shift commitment: 11:00am-2:00pm

    _______

The PM Shop Mom or Shop Dad is the steady, attentive adult who closes the loop on the day — caring for the space the way great parents tuck a home in for the night. You hold the final tone of the shop, making sure everything is reset, accounted for, and ready to welcome a new day.

During your shift, you “put the store to bed.” This includes restocking the hospitality bar, refilling any items sold, emptying diffusers, and giving the retail space a general sweep and dust so it feels calm and refreshed. You reconcile the POS system, deposit excess cash into the deposit box, and ensure everything balances with integrity and accuracy.

Before closing, you send end-of-day notes to the Volunteer Coordinator, turn off lights, and physically confirm all four doors are locked. You leave the space orderly, secure, and cared for — so when morning comes, it’s ready to wake up beautifully again.

    Shift commitment: 2:00pm-5:00pm

    ______

The Laundry Fairy: This role is for someone who wants to be involved and steward the mission but desires off-site volunteer roles. The Laundry Fairy picks up 1-2 bins of pre-sorted donations and provided soap to launder at home on their own time. The volunteer communicates with volunteer coordinator about their return time. Volunteer returns washed and dried donations to shop location.

  • Your donations directly benefit families in Central Oregon navigating the prenatal through postpartum season — particularly those who are under-resourced or facing financial barriers to care.

Items donated to our shop are resold at accessible prices, allowing families to obtain quality clothing and baby essentials with dignity. Proceeds from those sales are then used to fund childbirth education, birth support, postpartum care, and access to trusted providers within our community.

In addition to the families receiving services, local practitioners also benefit. We pay providers directly for the care families select, ensuring they are fully compensated and able to serve without compromise.

Every donation supports a cycle of dignity, access, and authentic community connection.
