OUR PHILOSOPHY OF CARE

At Deep Roots Birth Collective, we believe families deserve to be deeply known, thoughtfully prepared, and continuously supported throughout their pregnancy, birth, and postpartum journey.

Our comprehensive model of care brings together our signature birth doula duo experience with eight weeks of personalized postpartum doula support, creating a thoughtful continuum of care from pregnancy through the earliest weeks of parenthood.

Our commitment extends beyond preparing you for birth. We want you to feel equipped, confident, and genuinely cared for as you transition into life with your baby.

We recognize that every family has its own values, rhythms, priorities, and needs. Our role is to come alongside you with education, practical support, emotional grounding, and a relationship built on trust, allowing your care to evolve alongside your family.

YOUR DOULA TEAM

Every birth client at Deep Roots Birth Collective is supported by a doula duo—two dedicated birth doulas who work collaboratively throughout pregnancy, labor, and the immediate postpartum period.

This personalized, concierge-style approach offers continuity, shared expertise, and a sustainable model of care that prioritizes both your family's experience and the well-being of the doulas serving you.

Your doulas provide physical comfort, emotional grounding, education, and thoughtful guidance for both you and your partner. We work for you—not your provider or hospital—and are committed to ensuring your values, preferences, and voice remain central to your experience.

As you transition into the postpartum season, your care continues with the same dedicated doula duo who has walked alongside you throughout pregnancy and birth. This continuity is at the heart of our model, allowing us to build upon the relationships, trust, and understanding established long before your baby arrives.

Because we already know your family's values, preferences, and unique rhythms, our support naturally evolves alongside your needs. From preparing for birth to navigating those first eight weeks at home, you are cared for by familiar faces who know your story, understand what matters most to you, and remain deeply invested in your family's well-being.

One team. One continuous relationship. Thoughtful care through every transition.

PART ONE | THE EMPOWERED BIRTH EXPERIENCE

Prenatal Care & Preparation

Your birth doula duo will meet with your family for two comprehensive prenatal consultations designed to build relationships, understand your priorities, and prepare you for an informed and supported birth experience.

These sessions include:

  • Exploring your family's values, preferences, priorities, and non-negotiables.

  • Addressing questions, concerns, previous experiences, or fears surrounding birth.

  • Personalized birth planning and preparation.

  • Education surrounding labor stages, comfort measures, birth interventions, and newborn care.

  • Practical tools for both parents, including partner-supported comfort techniques, positioning, positive touch, and strategies for managing pain and fatigue.

  • Preparation for the emotional and physical transition into postpartum life.

  • Complimentary access to our virtual The No BS Birth Course.

We encourage ongoing communication throughout pregnancy, particularly surrounding prenatal appointments, so we can help you process new information, explore your options, and prepare for upcoming decisions.

Unlimited phone and text support begins at the time of hire. Additional in-person connections can be arranged as needed by client.

Labor & Birth Support

Your doula duo provides continuous, personalized support throughout labor and birth, whether you are planning to deliver at home, in a birth center, or in the hospital.

Our services include:

  • 24/7 on-call availability beginning at 38 weeks of pregnancy.

  • Phone and text support during early labor.

  • In-person labor support at home, when appropriate, before transitioning to your intended birth location.

  • Continuous physical, emotional, and informational support throughout active labor and delivery.

  • Comfort measures including massage, positioning, breathing techniques, positive touch, and essential oils when desired and appropriate.

  • Support for your partner through reassurance, education, practical suggestions, and opportunities for meaningful participation.

  • Assistance navigating conversations with medical providers and understanding available options.

  • Support in communicating your preferences and participating in informed decision-making.

  • Raw, unedited birth photography or video using your personal device, upon request and when circumstances permit.

When labor begins: Please notify your doulas when you suspect labor has started. We will initially assess your needs through conversation and offer guidance regarding when and where to join you. Please allow approximately 1–2 hours for doula arrival following our mutual agreement that in-person support is needed.

For scheduled inductions or cesarean births, we will collaborate with you ahead of time to establish an appropriate support plan. Attendance during admission, overnight cervical ripening, or surgical procedures will depend on your preferences, clinical circumstances, facility policies, and doula availability.

Immediate Postpartum Support

Following your baby's birth, your birth doulas will remain with you through the immediate postpartum transition, as circumstances allow, until:

  • The placenta has been delivered.

  • You and your baby are settled and comfortable.

  • Initial feeding and bonding have been supported.

  • You feel ready to transition into the next stage of care.

Your birth doula duo will follow up the day after delivery and provide two additional postpartum visits, which may include:

  • Processing and reflecting on your birth experience.

  • Emotional support and postpartum well-being check-ins.

  • Answering questions about recovery, feeding, and newborn adjustment within our scope of practice.

  • Offering resources and referrals when additional support is beneficial.

  • Coordinating the transition into your extended postpartum doula services.

These two visits are included in your Empowered Birth Package and are separate from the contracted hours of your eight-week postpartum care package.

Customized Bodywork & Essential Oil Support

Our holistic approach includes access to personalized relaxation and bodywork techniques intended to support physical comfort and emotional well-being.

One Individualized bodywork session per person is available upon request and must be scheduled and redeemed prior to labor and delivery. Sessions take place at Starbird Women's Clinic.

PART TWO | 8 WEEKS OF POSTPARTUM CARE

We believe the postpartum season deserves the same intentional preparation, presence, and investment as birth itself.

  • Thoughtful support for the family unit as a whole.

Postpartum care is personalized to your family's priorities and may evolve throughout the contracted eight weeks.

Our Approach to Postpartum Scheduling

We recognize that babies arrive on their own timeline and that postpartum needs are rarely predictable.

Your postpartum care is anticipated to begin following the birth of your baby, with an estimated start date established at the time of booking.

We will work collaboratively to develop a schedule that honors your family's needs while respecting our team's availability and existing commitments.

  • The contracted postpartum service period is eight weeks

  • Specific shift dates, start times, end times, and day or overnight coverage will be coordinated between your family and our postpartum team.

  • We will make reasonable scheduling accommodations when the actual birth date differs from the estimated due date.

  • Our postpartum team will avoid conflicting bookings within one week of the anticipated contract start date to help preserve scheduling flexibility.

  • Previously planned vacations or other scheduling conflicts will be communicated, with adjustments or qualified alternate doula coverage arranged when feasible.

  • Additional postpartum hours may be requested and added according to availability and mutual agreement.

  • All contracted hours remain a financial commitment unless otherwise addressed in the cancellation or termination provisions of this agreement.

We understand the importance of consistency and will make reasonable efforts to preserve continuity with your designated postpartum doula. If alternate coverage becomes necessary, we will communicate those arrangements as early as possible.

OUR HOLISTIC MODEL OF CARE

Every doula within Deep Roots Birth Collective is trained within a holistic model that honors the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of the families we serve.

We embrace a multidisciplinary approach, maintaining relationships with trusted local practitioners who offer thoughtful, integrative support throughout pregnancy, birth, and postpartum recovery.

Our doula duo and collaborative postpartum model also reflect our commitment to sustainable care. By sharing responsibilities intentionally and supporting one another professionally, we can remain present, compassionate, and deeply engaged with the families who entrust us with their care.

Additionally, all doulas within our collective are Loss Literacy trained by Lauren Paz of A Soulful Sorrow. This specialized education strengthens our ability to support families navigating pregnancy loss, pregnancy after loss, and the complex emotional experiences that can accompany pregnancy and parenthood.

Our commitment is to meet each family with dignity, compassion, sensitivity, and respect.

PROFESSIONAL SCOPE & LIMITATIONS

Our doulas provide nonclinical physical, emotional, educational, and practical support. We do not replace the care of your medical providers, pediatrician, or other licensed healthcare professionals.

Birth Doula Scope

Our birth doulas do not:

  • Perform clinical procedures such as blood pressure monitoring, fetal monitoring, or vaginal examinations.

  • Diagnose medical conditions or prescribe treatment.

  • Make medical decisions on your behalf.

  • Speak for you or provide medical consent on your behalf.

  • Interfere with medical procedures or direct the actions of your healthcare team.

We will support your ability to ask questions, understand information, communicate preferences, and make informed decisions.

Postpartum Doula Scope

Our postpartum doulas are knowledgeable about typical postpartum recovery and newborn care but do not provide medical diagnosis, treatment, or clinical services.

If concerns arise regarding maternal recovery, infant health, feeding, or emotional well-being, we will encourage you to consult the appropriate medical professional.

Postpartum services do not include:

  • Deep cleaning, including scrubbing bathrooms, floors, ovens, or refrigerators.

  • Independent babysitting or childcare services.

  • Sole supervision of infants or other children when a parent or responsible guardian is not present in the home.

  • Transportation of the birthing parent, infant, or other family members in a doula's personal vehicle.

  • Duties that fall outside our professional scope or present an unreasonable risk to the health, safety, or physical well-being of our team.

During postpartum shifts, our doulas may independently attend to your newborn while you rest or sleep in the home.

Our doulas provide services through Deep Roots Birth Collective LLC and are not employees of the client.

We reserve the right to decline tasks outside our agreed scope. Threatening, abusive, or unsafe conduct toward any member of our team may result in immediate termination of services under the terms outlined below.

ILLNESS, AVAILABILITY & CONTINUITY OF CARE

The health and well-being of your family and our team are important to us.

If a scheduled postpartum doula experiences symptoms of a potentially contagious illness, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible and work together to reschedule the affected shift.

When requested and available, Deep Roots Birth Collective may facilitate alternate postpartum doula coverage during the recovery period.

Similarly, we ask that your family notify us of contagious illness within the household before a scheduled visit so we can determine appropriate precautions or rescheduling arrangements.

We will make reasonable efforts to provide all contracted services while prioritizing the health and safety of everyone involved.

TERMS & CONDITIONS

Birth Services

Rapid Labor or Missed Attendance

If labor progresses too quickly for our doulas to arrive, or if we are not notified with sufficient time to attend, the birth service fee remains applicable.

In these circumstances, we will work with your family to arrange reasonable alternative postpartum support within the scope of your birth package.

Any alternative support offered under this provision will be separate from the eight-week postpartum hours already contracted.

Cancellation After 38 Weeks

If you elect not to utilize your birth doula services after 38 weeks of pregnancy, or do not notify our team during labor, the full birth package fee remains due and non-refundable.

Planned or Unplanned Cesarean Birth

The full birth package fee remains applicable in the event of a planned or unplanned cesarean delivery.

We will continue providing emotional, informational, and practical support to the extent permitted by the medical facility and clinical circumstances.

Operating room access is determined by hospital policy and the medical team, including the attending anesthesiologist. Access for one or both doulas cannot be guaranteed.

When operating room attendance is restricted, we will coordinate appropriate alternative support and remain available within the agreed scope of services.

Postpartum Services

Scheduling Changes

We recognize that the timing of birth, family recovery, and postpartum needs may require scheduling adjustments.

We will make reasonable efforts to accommodate changes while honoring our team's existing commitments.

Requested changes to confirmed shifts should be communicated as early as possible. Rescheduling is subject to availability and mutual agreement.

Contracted Hours

The eight-week postpartum package reserves a defined amount of our team's professional time and availability.

All contracted hours are expected to be utilized within the agreed service period or an approved extension.

Additional hours must be agreed upon separately and may incur additional charges.

Illness or Doula Unavailability

When our team must cancel a scheduled shift due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, we will make reasonable efforts to reschedule the hours or arrange qualified alternate coverage.

Any hours we are unable to provide or replace will be addressed through a mutually agreed adjustment or refund for the undelivered services.

Client-Initiated Cancellation or Early Termination

If your family chooses to discontinue postpartum services before the completion of the contracted eight weeks, the initial $500 postpartum retainer remains non-refundable.

Any additional financial obligations, refunds, or credits for unused postpartum hours will be determined according to the written cancellation terms agreed upon before services begin.

Safety & Respect

We are committed to providing care within a safe, respectful environment.

Abusive, threatening, discriminatory, or otherwise unsafe behavior toward a member of our team may result in immediate termination of services.

Any refund or remaining payment obligation following termination will be determined according to services already delivered, reserved time, and applicable law.

OUR SHARED COMMITMENT

We recognize that inviting someone into your pregnancy, birth, and postpartum experience is deeply personal.

It is a privilege to be welcomed into these meaningful seasons of your family's story.

Our commitment is to provide care that is grounded in relationship, informed by experience, and responsive to your individual needs. We will show up with professionalism, compassion, and genuine investment in your family's well-being.

From preparing for birth to finding your footing in those first weeks at home, our hope is that you feel more than supported.

We hope you feel known, equipped, and never alone in the experience.
