MOM ANATOMY

Down There, Demystified: The Pelvic Floor

What you never learned in health class—but probably should have.

We live in our bodies every single day, and yet so many of us enter pregnancy, birth, and postpartum without really understanding how they work.

Mom Anatomy is a monthly speaker series hosted by Deep Roots Collective designed to change that.

Each month, we’ll bring in a trusted professional from our community to sit down with us and unpack a different piece of the female body—giving moms and moms-to-be practical, approachable education about their anatomy, how it changes through pregnancy and postpartum, and how to better advocate for and support their bodies along the way.

No awkward lectures. No questions too weird. Just really good information, trusted professionals, and a room full of women learning about the bodies we live in. It’s living room vibes, and kids always welcome.

FIRST UP: THE PELVIC FLOOR, 10/2/26

We’re kicking off Mom Anatomy with Dr. Michaela Cioffredi, Doctor of Physical Therapy and founder of Restored Core, for a conversation all about the pelvic floor.

You’ve probably heard someone tell you to “relax your pelvic floor” during labor or “strengthen your pelvic floor” postpartum…but what does that actually mean?

We’re going back to basics.

Where is your pelvic floor? What does it actually do? How do you know if you’re relaxing it? What happens to it during pregnancy and birth? And what does healing actually look like postpartum?

Dr. Michaela specializes in orthopedic and pelvic floor physical therapy with advanced training in pregnancy and postpartum care. Her approach centers on helping women understand their bodies and giving them practical tools to move through pregnancy, recovery, exercise, and everyday life with more strength and confidence.

WE’LL TALK ABOUT:

  • Pelvic floor 101: where it is, what it does, and how to actually connect with it

  • Pregnancy + birth: what changes and what it really means to relax and lengthen the pelvic floor during labor

  • Postpartum healing: what’s normal, what deserves attention, and why “just do Kegels” isn’t the whole story

  • Your questions: the things you’ve wondered, Googled, or maybe felt too awkward to ask at an appointment

You don’t need to be pregnant to come. You don’t need to be postpartum. And you definitely don’t need to know anything about anatomy before you walk through the door.

Come curious. Leave knowing your body a little better.

Because the more we understand our bodies, the more confidently we can care for them, ask better questions, make informed decisions, and advocate for ourselves.

This is Mom Anatomy. And we think women deserve to know this stuff.
