Role of the Postpartum Doula

The main role of a postpartum doula is to help the family make a smooth adjustment and to educate them so they ultimately feel confident in caring for their newborn. The services I provide include but are not limited to: educating the new family in baby care and feeding methods following the pediatrician’s guidelines or that of the American Academy of Pediatrics; teaching calming/soothing techniques, infant care while parents rest, baby laundry, bottle washing, care for baby overnight, and providing local resources.

Limits of Practice

Although I do not provide medical care, I am well versed in the normal postpartum recovery period and infant care. Should I feel the course of recovery is not going as planned, I will advise you to contact either your physician/midwife, or pediatrician.

As a postpartum doula, I do not do deep cleaning. For example, I will not scrub bathrooms, clean refrigerators, ovens or scrub floors. I will vacuum, sweep, wash bottles, load/unload the dishwasher and wipe surfaces if applicable and time permits during our shift. I also do not babysit or stay alone with infants or toddlers. I will take care of your infant while parens rest and practice self care. Please note that postpartum doulas are not employees of the client, but instead are independent service providers.

Due to liability issues, I will not transport mother or baby in my car.

I reserve the right to refuse to perform any duties that I feel are out of my scope of practice or may endanger my physical well-being. Although it is rare, ANY abuse by a client or family member will be reason for termination of this agreement without notice or refund of initial retainer.

Illness Clause

If I am showing symptoms of illness, I will notify you immediately so we can reschedule our shift. If desired, Deep Roots Birth Collective can facilitate a backup postpartum doula during my recovery.

Packages Offered:

A La Carte - $50/hr

• Individually customized number of hours of postpartum support (day or night)

• The number of hours will be agreed upon at contract signature date and additional hours can be added if doula’s schedule allows

• Unlimited phone and text support from the time of hire

New Beginnings - $4,000

• 80 hours of customized postpartum support (day or night)

• These hours must be used within a 4-week period

• Unlimited phone and text support from the time of hire

Deeply Rooted - $6,000

• 125 hours of customized postpartum support (day or night)

• These hours must be used within a 8-week period

• Unlimited phone and text support from the time of hire

The Fourth Trimester - $8,000

• 175 hours of customized postpartum support (day or night)

• These hours must be used within a 12-week period

• Unlimited phone and text support from the time of hire

Scheduling:

Please understand that babies arrive into this world on their own timeline and that may impact the start date of our contract based on my schedule and availability. I will not double book myself within 1 week of your expected contract start date. If I have any pre-planned vacations I will make adjustments to complete our contract upon my return or we can schedule a backup doula. Please note, we may be able to add additional hours onto the end of your package dependent upon my availability; however, the initial contracted hours must be honored and payed in full.

Fees and Payment:

Total Agreed Upon Service Fee for Katelyn Fisher: $4,000 (80 hours of postpartum support over 4 weeks)

Estimated Contract Start Date: 3/1/26

• Non-refundable $500 deposit required to secure your postpartum window.

• The remainder of our agreed upon price will be due upon contract start date. Weekly payment plans are available through our digital invoice system with a 3% Squarespace service fee.

Accepted payment methods: Personal check, cash, or digital invoice to pay online. Please note, if digital invoice is requested a 3% Squarespace service fee will be charged for each transaction.
